NOTES FOR LESSON 2!

Here are some notes for Lesson 2, to help you and Sofie movie forward...

-- Don't ASK Sofie to "Fetch". You need to COMMAND "Fetch" with confidence.

-- You NEED to be faster with your mechanics. The smoother you can do the 'Set Up' (collar high & snug, fold back, thumb on ear, present dowel), the easier and quicker Sofie will understand what you want her to do.
-- Practice doing the set up by yourself with Fido. Fido is a stuffed animal dog used to practice getting quicker with the mechanics.

-- You are actually unknowingly angled towards Sofie, which we don't want. You need to be square, facing forward. So, don't turn your body towards Sofie, think of it as if you and another person are standing next to each other facing forward, shoulder to shoulder. 

-- To help with this, no more sitting when doing the exercise. Stand next to Sofie instead and practice making sure you are facing forward instead of towards the dog.

(I made a mistake on this one and told you incorrect information)

-- DO NOT wait for Sofie to choose to open her mouth. You need to brush her teeth IMMEDIATELY!!! As soon as you present the dowel, brush her teeth!

-- You just need to be a bit more confident with what you're doing. Because you are unsure and hesitant, Sofie is also unsure and hesitant. Sofie is thinking "if Nancy doesn't know what the heck she's doing, then I sure don't know either" lol.

(Another mistake I made, sorry!)

-- Don't squeeze her ear. Brushing the teeth is the correction at this point.

-- Something else we're going to do the opposite of what I said... Have a flat collar on in addition to the chain collar. When you do the 'Set Up' hold on to both the flat collar and chain collar. All mechanics are the same. This will just give you a little bit more control of the head.
