Up until now, we've taught 2 important principles: Recall and Sit
L1 = Recall
L2 = Whistle Recall
L3 = Moving Sit, no e-collar/whistle
L4 = Random Sit, out and about
We've taught the dog to come in
We've taught the dog to stop
Now, we're going to teach the dog, with e-collar pressure, to go away from us on command until we tell them what to do
(VIDEO) Review and Explanation of L5:
PLACE
- Sending dog to Place with very low pressure
- Initially start close, if needed then gradually increase distance
- Start on LL then eventually have no line
- Mechanics are exactly the same as the Foundation Course, only difference is the pressure
- O-ring, left hand by dog's right eye, hand faces up, step off with left foot
- Use the "yes" bridging word
- Constant pressure until dog is where they should be
- As soon as dog is on Place board, the pressure comes off and give dog power to turn the pressure off because they did the right thing
- Remember to praise!
- Take dog off Place board however you prefer - return to dog, step back, random recall, here/touch, release word)
- After a couple times, let go of LL to let dog choose to do the right thing
- Walk into dog and repeat command if necessary
- This lesson, you'll put more and more pressure/distance in terms of where you're sending dog to Place
- As soon as dog starts to go, you back away - don't hover on top of dog
- If dog comes off or back towards you, use your body to move dog forward
- Eventually increase using pressure and decrease using body

HIDE 'N' SEEK GAME - EXPANDED RECALL
- This game can save the dog's life
- If dog is moving away from you or not really paying attention to where you are, you can duck behind something/a little out of sight
- You can also have someone hold the check cord/LL while you hide
- Do 4 whistle blasts with low pressure
- As soon as dog comes and finds you, release pressure and it's "touch" then release
- Will eventually teach dog to pay attention to where you are and come find you
- If dog's out in woods or field and has disappeared and you can't see them and they can't see you and you need to bring dog back quickly
- Now you're not responsible to always see 'where's my dog'
- Dog learns to go out, circle back, look and see you, then repeat
- Dog also learns to come back quickly when it goes out and doesn't see you/you duck behind something and dog wonders 'where are they' and comes back quickly

DIRECTIONALS - EXPANDED RANDOM SIT
- There may be a time or place in your life when you literally have to stop the dog and move them away from a danger
- You have to be able to move them, at a distance away from you, to go in a certain direction
- No e-collar pressure when giving the direction
- Do a whistle Sit, the Stay is implied
- Use large hand movement and move one direction
- Command "Over"
- Praise when dog follows, even if it's a slight movement
