Do 20 a day and vary when/where you do them.
Week 1: Low levels of distractions
Week 2: Medium levels of distractions
Week 3: High levels of distractions
*We will meet in person for Lesson 4 the weekend of November 5-6*
SETUP FOR LESSON 3:
- Collar high and snug
- Fold back
- Thumb IN ear
- Present dowel and command (don't ask) "Fetch"
You'll need to do the ear correction immediately as you are starting out. Then once Sofie understands what you want her to do and is moving her head forward on her own, then you use the ear correction as needed.
Other things to remember:
- Make sure you are square, not turning towards the dog.
- Be smooth and quick with your mechanics/set-up, but not so quick that your thumb is not deep enough in her ear (you don't want your thumb to slip out).
- Lock your arm and DO NOT move the dowel! Sofie needs to move to the dowel, not you moving the dowel to her.
- Remember to stay cool, calm, collected, and confident!
