Notice the leash is in the correct position and Monika is using her left leg as an energy/barrier to reposition Sophie in the direction Monika wants her to turn.

PERFECT. Leash is in Walking Position with enough "J" of the leash to catch below Monika's knee giving Sophie crystal clear communication & direction.

This is an important photo as Monika isn't doing the Left Training Turn, rather she is using her right knee and body positioning to drive Sophie. SO, THIS IS NOT CORRECT. However, please note there are times when a dog moves one way and there simply isn't time to set everything up correctly, so you do what you need to do to move the dog in the direction it needs to go. What should she have been doing instead assuming she had the time to do so?

One of my FAVORITE photos as this is right after the above left turn (see photo) and although that Left Turn was a bit off because Monika did not have time to set up the turn, NOTICE THE ABSOLUTE PERFECT HEELING POSITION OF SOPHIE AND HER 'ATTENTION' TO MONIKA. Sophie is doing what is called 'checking in' which is exactly what you want the dog to do.

A classic example of PERFECT leash handling, perfect body positioning (see the forward lean?) and the result with Sophie is she has nowhere to go EXCEPT follow the leash direction. THIS IS WHY LEASH POSITION is so very, very critical. Takes a while for a new student to get it, but when you do get it perfect, you can FEEL the instant results. Once you FEEL it, it is easier then to replicate. This is how you build fluid mechanics and auto body muscle memory as you just have to do it it until you FEEL it and then you know.

Again, check out the leash position, Monika's upright body, the loose "J" which is available to correct Sophie should she need it. But here Sophie is wisely paying close attention and choosing comfort by remaining in correct heel position.

Last but not least, again, Monika is using her body, her left foot forward towards Sophie who wasn't paying close enough attention and see Monika's forward diagonal tilt of her body? That is giving Sophie tons of extra cues to 'read' and you can see Sophie has figured out she's in the wrong place and needs to move quickly if she's to reestablish comfort. 

Drago, an experienced 'Demo Dog' is maintaining his Down/Stay while his owner works.  In time, each of you will have that kind of trusted obedient dog also, but it takes time, effort, energy, consistency, and a willingness to continue to learn to achieve a Drago. Long ago, Drago was a WILD DOG, but you can see he no longer is but Drago has full choice to ignore that command and get up or go say hi or race after Monika. BUT HE DOES NOT. Why? Because Monika has stuck with the KMODT for years and that is what you get when you stick with it.
