It took me awhile to figure out Fido, but here is my first attempt. I'll await your comment before I try it with Sofie. Tomorrow, I'll work on some of he turns with Fido. Thanks! Nancy
Step 1) Do the Step 1, the slide with your left hand as your right foot is forward. These two movements happen simultaneously. So start your 'slide' as that right foot starts to step forward.
Step 2) At second count :17, you are starting to do the Kiss hand signal (which is for your Days 5/6, the Sit Correction) and your left foot is behind your right foot. The left foot should have already taken a 1/2 step forward. For Days 1/2, the right hand replaces the left hand, right pinkie by the snap bolt (so thumbs up to the sky 👍) at..simultaneously..that left foot has taken a 1/2 step forward past the right foot. For Day 1/2, that is where the 'replace' happens and no verbal command. For Days 3/4, the mechanics are the same, just at Step 1, at the 'slide' simultaneously command "Sit". Days 5/6 is where you do the Kiss hand signal you are doing in this video.
Step 3) On Days 1/2, the left foot remains planted, not moving, the right hand has replaced the left hand slide and your right hand pinkie is close to snap bolt ...then the left hand with left thumb by your left side pushes down gently at based of dogs tail..simultaneously...the right thumb puts steady upward (by your left side straight to the sky) pressure on the leash (helps if you put your right elbow to the sky while pulling upward) until dog Sits. Once dogs butt is on ground, release all leash pressure as slack collar tells the dog it did the right thing. Days 3/4 are the same, just add the verbal "Sit" at the slide. Days 5/6 is where you dig has seen the Kiss hand signal at Step 2, so on Step 3, the two thumbs together, plams to the ground, that is the Kiss hand signal which is done slightly forward of the dogs right eye, is turned 90 degrees, above the dogs head, palms facing the dogs head, right elbow to the sky. That is the Sit Correction.
So you and Fido are doing well, practice a smidge more and you will feel the Halt mechanics when they are correct. The hardest part is that the footwork is EXACTLY the same for Days 1-6, but it is the handling of the leash on your upper body that changes.
Kind've like patting your head and rubbing your stomach simultaneously. Clear as mud, right?
OK. Thanks for the feedback and encouragement. Sadly, today Sofie injured herself. This is crazy! Two dogs within a week! I wasn't home but Mike said that Sean let Sofie out of the crate when he came home from boy scout camp (he hadn't seen her in a week) and she went crazy jumping up and down in excitement and somehow twisted her back left leg/paw. She's not putting weight on it currently. It's 100 degrees here and I'm just letting both dogs relax on the cool kitchen tile floor. She's not wanting to move much, I think more due to her foot than the heat. Ugh!! I may end up taking her to the vet along with Chester on Monday?? Although Chester pooped again and some more of those beads came out, which is very good, so not sure if we need to go back or not. We shall see. Here comes the storm. Maybe the heat will break!
