Sorry I was off tonight. Will try to be quicker with EC. I should not have cut my nails. I found my thumb slipping in her ear tonight. And the collar was bothering me. Ugh! Fading out the prompts makes much sense though!! N
Good work. Excellent you worked until Sofie could and did end on a very 'high note of success'.
Couple of pointers. 1) Cease stabilizing the DB. Whenever you place it on the ground is where Sofie is to pick it up from the ground. When she rolls it with her nose? That is sloppiness and avoidance behavior. Think about a freshly shot duck🦆 that still has life and is moving away (called a cripple) while the dog sent to retrieve it has to chase it down anyway, put its mouth on it (while duck is squawking and wiggingly trying to escape), NOT kill the duck (we want the dog to retrieve the duck, but not chew or eat or mangle it so dog must have 'soft mouth' with duck🦆 in its mouth. Dog must maintain control of squawking, wiggling duck ALL the way back to deliver to owner's hand hand. Will upload a video shoeing you this training in real life with Pree who said "No!" and I said, "Oh yes you will retrieve that live duck now!" 2) Once you issue "Hold" it's Sofie's responsibility 💯 to maintain control. Quit caging her jaw and let her succeed, or fail, on her own. Hopefully, she will fail and drop it and you can then do Hold correction immediately and continue. Easier to do so this week than next week when the "Hold" command ceases and we move into a double EC. Make this week count. 3) when you bring her back to SSIF with DB, cease your timing and sequence of the "Give". Sometimes bend over and wave your hand ✋️ underneath without ANY command. She will drop it, correct with Hold correction. Sometimes step away from her, she is to continue to "Hold " no matter what. Always. No matter what. 4) Adding her ball or balls as distractions. 5) Now, go to 4 fingers 2" away from DB on ground, then when Sofie is successful 80% of the time, despite distractions, and waving your hand under her on SSIF or whatever, then go onto 4 fingers at 3" away. Contine this sequencing until you can place DB on ground, fingers 6" to right of DB.
